Who You Are
You are a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with substantial post-qualification experience. You have a proven track record of managing a diverse caseload effectively and working to tight deadlines. You are experienced in providing legal advice and capable of supervising and developing junior legal officers.
What the job involves
As a Lawyer in the Legal Services Department, you will provide legal counsel to the Council, managing a caseload and advising on complex legal issues. You will identify and advise on political, operational, and other risk issues, ensuring legal costs are within budget. The role involves drafting, negotiating, and commenting on legal documents, advising on public administrative and constitutional issues, and providing legal advice during committee meetings. Additionally, you will implement improvements in legal case management, ensure clients are updated on legal developments, and contribute to the development of efficient working practices.
