Who You Are
We are looking for someone who is experienced in supporting individuals with complex needs, including those with behaviors of concern. You should be skilled in facilitating group and individual activities that align with EHCP outcomes, able to develop communication skills, and deliver inclusive support using a positive behavior support (PBS) framework. You should also be comfortable providing personal care, manual handling, and working flexibly in both center-based and community settings.
What the job involves
As a SEND Education Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting young people with learning disabilities, autism, sensory needs, and physical disabilities to achieve their Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes. You will provide person-centered, outcome-focused interventions in the community, in the Southwark Resource Centre, or in other appropriate settings. You will assist SEND Progression Mentors with their key working duties, facilitating tailored activities to build confidence, promote inclusion, develop English and Maths, and increase independence. You will also connect young people with local networks, community services, and digital resources to enhance well-being and resilience, and support and encourage participation through emotional, positive behavioral, and practical support, including personal care when needed.
