Role

Who You Are

You are a proactive and organised Paralegal with experience supporting legal teams and managing a varied caseload under supervision. You have a strong understanding of legal procedures, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, counsel, and external stakeholders. You are committed to delivering high-quality legal support, maintaining confidentiality, and providing excellent customer service. Depending on experience, you may also handle routine casework, provide legal guidance, represent the Council in court on appropriate matters, and contribute to service improvement initiatives.

What the job involves

You will provide paralegal support to the Council's Legal Services team, assisting lawyers across a range of legal areas including litigation, planning, housing, employment, contracts, conveyancing, social services, and information governance. Your responsibilities will include preparing legal documents, court bundles, pleadings, statements, applications, leases and correspondence, maintaining case management systems and court diaries, conducting legal research, liaising with internal departments, clients, witnesses and counsel, attending court to file documents and support hearings, managing routine legal enquiries, monitoring key case dates, producing reports and statistics, and ensuring compliance with legal procedures and Council policies. At higher grades, you will manage your own workload, undertake routine casework, provide legal advice, instruct counsel, prepare briefings on legislative changes, contribute to training and induction, improve administrative processes, and support the continuous development of the Legal Service.
