Purpose of the Job

To be responsible for ensuring the security, safety, and cleanliness in relation to the cleaning of designated streets and estates within Southwark. These will determined by the needs of the service.

Principal Accountabilities

To undertake cleaning duties specified below in the following areas of the Council’s estates and highways:

Corridors, utility rooms, balconies and pedways, entrances and lobbies, refuse stores, lifts/stairs and landings, store rooms, external areas and other areas and accommodation that might exist.

2.  Cleaning duties using appropriate equipment and materials, to include:

Sweeping of hard floors and walkways, damp and wet mopping of hard floors and walkways.

Sweeping of external areas e.g. pathways/pavement/channels and courtyards.

Scrubbing of internal and external hard floors, walkways and other areas as might be directed.

Wall wash, high cleaning of walls, associated furniture, fixtures, fittings and internal window cleaning.

Collection and removal of bulk/bagged refuse from all areas on the estate.

Emptying of external litterbins and rotation of paladin refuse stores.

Litter picking/leaf clearing/snow clearing.

Cleaning of major spillage, soilage and other deposits.

3.  To attend training sessions organised by supervisory staff, to use new       equipment after training and to carry out new methods or procedures as and when directed.

  1. To follow all procedures relevant to maintaining the security of Council      property as directed.

  2. To clean, maintain and store all cleaning equipment and materials as directed   and to report all defective equipment and materials to the Supervisor.

  3. To note when cleaning materials and other supplies are required and to order or request that an order be placed for the necessary materials and supplies with the Supervisor.

7.  To be responsible for the security of all cleaning equipment and materials  under the employees control.

Job context

Reporting to: Southwark Cleaning Supervisor and/or Team Leader

Financial Responsibilities : None

Grade/Conditions of Service: Grade : 2 Contractual hours: 36 hours, Monday to Saturday
